Date: December 7, 2024
Speaker: Lee Po-Chang (Director, Health and Welfare Policy Research Center, Taipei Medical University)

Director Lee Po-Chang was invited by the Taiwan Evidence-Based Nursing Association to deliver a keynote speech titled “Sharing Taiwan’s Experience in Utilizing National Health Insurance Big Data for Healthcare Services.”

In his presentation, Director Lee reflected on his tenure as the Superintendent of the Ministry of Health and Welfare Tainan Hospital. Collaborating with Director Hsieh Li-Wei, they renovated outdated dormitories for nursing staff and adjusted the reward system, allocating a higher proportion of bonuses to contract nursing staff to address the persistent issue of “equal work, unequal pay.”

In response to a question from a male head nurse at Chi Mei Hospital, Director Lee advised the nursing community to unite and actively advocate for adjustments to payment standards, highlighting that this is a critical step toward improving the National Health Insurance system and addressing the challenges of “overworked and underpaid hospitals.”
