【Media Report】TMU’s Center for Health Policy and Law is hosting a forum on the Legal Trends of Health Data Commercial Use. Experts have been invited to share their insights and recommendations at the event.

Taipei Medical University’s Center for Health Policy Research, in collaboration with Taiwan’s Novartis, will host a forum titled “Legal Trends in the Commercial Use of Health Data” on November 2, 2023. The forum will bring together experts such as Wang Tzu-Hsiung, Director of the Institute of Science and Technology Law at the Institute for Information Industry; Chen Chih-Hsiung, Dean of the Technology and Law School at Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University; Sun Ting-Ting, Head of Clinical Research at Novartis Taiwan; and Li Chong-Si, Deputy Director of the Center for Health Policy Research at Taipei Medical University.

The forum will focus on discussing the legal trends in the commercial use of health data. In the era of data-driven healthcare, the use of health data has become a critical element in the medical, research, and business sectors. However, the use of this data must be accompanied by strict legal and ethical regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security.

Various countries have established different regulations to manage the commercial use of health data, making it essential for stakeholders in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, and research sectors to have a comprehensive understanding of these legal trends. The participation of industry professionals in the forum will help shed light on the challenges and needs of the sector.

Taiwan Novartis’ Legal Counsel, Li Ke-Wen, hopes that the forum will facilitate discussions on implementing privacy and personal data protection regulations while exploring ways to reduce the cost of accessing health data. De-identified health data plays a significant role in drug development, therapeutic evaluation, and precision medicine, emphasizing the need for flexible regulations to encourage medical and business innovation.

This forum aims to provide fresh insights and opportunities for the crucial topic of health data’s legal, ethical, and secure use and set the direction for Taiwan’s development in this field. The organizers are grateful for all participants and hope that the forum’s discussions will lead to better solutions for the lawful, ethical, and secure use of health data.
